Scott Steedley – Founder & President

Scott SteedlyScott is an author, artist, builder, and educator with an Associate of Arts degree (1993) and a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood and Elementary Education (1995) from College of Charleston. After designing/building his “dream” log cabin on Edisto Island, SC (1996) he explored Costa Rica, Central America (1999), eventually becoming a landowner and envisioning the LaComunidad development (2001-Present). With 30+ years experience in landscaping, it was natural to blend experiences by becoming a certified Natural Builder (2004) and Permaculturalist (2005). Along this path, he met true pioneers in the permaculture, education, eco-village, natural building, intentional community worlds-who he’s pleased to consider friends.

As founder of International Center for Sustainability, Inc. (ICS, Inc.), he co-created CRICS, (2007), a permaculture learning center in Costa Rica. Volunteering as Public Outreach Chairman for an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful (2008-2015), and as a continued representative of ICS, Inc., allows opportunities to enter school systems to develop organic gardens, recycling programs, outdoor classrooms, micro-businesses, sustainability models and permaculture initiatives. Currently, a collaboration known as AIR-(Abundant Immersion Retreats), a learning center and event space in Colleton County, South Carolina is in development. Here resources are preserved, treehouse/wildlife observation units constructed, natural building methods employed, trail systems defined, and workshops and event planning underway.
